Real ale has been around a long, long time and certainly for at least 6,000 years. It has probably been made for a lot longer ever since man first started farming and growing cereals which has its roots back in the Neolithic age. They obviously knew what they liked even back then! ... and it has an even brighter future with a growing range of traditionally brewed cask conditioned real ales and bottled conditioned beers from the Tryst Brewery!

One of the brothers started brewing to supply his fellow monks establishing brewing as one of the oldest industry in Glasgow. Cask conditioned beer - a natural productReal ale is a natural product brewed using traditional ingredients and fermented with yeast to convert the sugars to alcohol. It is left to mature in the cask (hence the term 'cask-conditioned') and undergoes secondary fermentation while being served in your 'local'. It is this process which makes real ale unique amongst beers and develops the wonderful tastes and aromas which processed beers can never provide. Traditional methodsBeer is produced from malted barley, hops, yeast and water. Other cereals and ingredients are often also used in various quantities and contributes to the wide selection of ales available. Flavourings such as spices and even fruit can also be used to give the finished beer its distinctive character.
