History:

The Carronade was affectionally known as ' the smasher' by the gun crews of Nelsons navy due to its devastating effect against the wooden ships of the time. developed from a design dating back to the second half of the eighteenth century the Carron Iron company of Falkirk went on to produce thousands of these guns in various calibres which saw service all over the world. The weapon was considerably lighter than other other guns of the period and featured precision cast bores which greatly improved both their power and their accuracy.

The last conflict in which Carronades participated was the American Civil War in the 1860's by which time their limited range made them ineffective against the rapid developments in ordinance that evolved in the second half of the nineteenth century.

A very distinctive ale that is not for the faint hearted . American hop varieties provide a well balanced feast of citrus flavours that linger on the palette which have won this beer many fans and a number of awards.
